Review of Stay (2005) by Alvaro S — 27 Jun 2009
Fuck it. Just plain fuck this film. The directing starts out interesting, quick cuts and unexpected transitions that confuse and engage the viewer. The dialog is heavy with a scummy realism and awkwardness.
Sadly as the film progresses things become more nonsensical, like watching Mulholland Drive with the "tripping balls" dial turned down two notches. There's a point where you now longer care what's going on, you just want the movie to be over so it can explain itself.
But unlike David Lynch's film, which decides to leave the viewer confused for their own "good," Stay instead chooses to go a much more terrible, horrible route. Clearly they learned NOTHING from Dallas.
