Review of Staten Island Summer (2015) by Kyle B — 01 Aug 2015
It's not a revolutionary summer teen movie but it does have a lot of great moments. I love Graham Phillips on The Good Wife and wish he did more movies because he really is great. Cicely Strong, Fred Armisen, Bobby Moynihan, Mike O'Brien, Kate McKinnon, Colin Jost, and Jim Gaffigan are all great and funny and even elevate the weak moments of the script with their performances.
Colin Jost, current head writer of SNL, faces the same difficulties with his writing on SNL here where sometimes it just tries too hard but with this cast they really brought out the better moments of the script and made them out weigh the mediocre parts.
It's harmless fun and has some Wet Hot American Summer vibes.
