Review of State of Grace (1990) by Nick L — 14 Aug 2007
Finally tracked this one down, and it's a helluva movie. Oldman is great as usual, but Joe Pesci doomed him to be 1990's OTHER psychotic mob lieutenant. The last thing I saw Ed Harris in was "A History of Violence"; my God, before that I thought he was typecast as nice guy.
Lastly, the lead is a tricky role, and Sean Penn really nails it. After a career of quiet types, be they pensive or just sociopathic, it's interesting to see him play a frightened young man so ably.
