Review of State of Grace (1990) by Justin J — 09 Nov 2011
State of Grace:
Honestly I wasn't all that excited when my dad said he recorded a movie that has Sean Penn and Gary Oldman in it, but when I saw that it was a mob movie, my attention rose. State of Play is a late 80's irish mob tale with similarities to the 2006 best picture The Departed, but at first we don't realize it. Sean Penn just rolls in Hell's Kitchen after a ten year absence from place unknown. His friends Gary Oldman and a skinny and very young and serious John C. Reilly, yes Step Brothers and Talladega Nights John C. Reilly, have close connections to the local Irish mob ran by another big name Ed Harris. now the story does have alot of layers and alot of things do happen so I won't get into it to much, just that Sean Penn isn't exectly who he says he is, but actually acop who must infiltrate and rat on his old friends. it is a very good movie and a pleasent surprise.
