Review of State and Main (2000) by Justin G — 02 Apr 2008
A fun little movie about a big budget Hollywood production taking over a small town in Vermont for a few weeks. David Mamet, who is usually known for his popping dialogue and character development, I actually found to be a little forced and awkward in this movie.
All of the "hollywood players" are almost 2-d caricatures of the "characters" they are supposed to inhabit, the acting saves a lot of the film, but much of the interaction is forced.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman steals the show again, but William H. Macy and David Paymer as the director/producer combo are hilarious.
