Review of Starting Out in the Evening (2007) by Sabrina F — 01 Dec 2007
Superbly acted and scripted. Having seen Langella in Frost/Nixon, I continue to be amazed of his ability to carry the full weight of a character's life on his shoulders. The dialogue is sparse, but every movement and breath is imbued with a conversational meaning.
Also, a great comment on the state of the literary world. The arguments were kept to the subplot, making them infinitely more effective and not preachy. The completeness of vision was impressive as well.
They knew this should be a 'small' film, almost claustrophobic, with the four main characters trapped in their small apartments with one another.
