Review of Starting Out in the Evening (2007) by E K — 03 Mar 2008
This quiet and intellectual movie actually packed quite an emotional punch. I'm most impressed by the work of the ensemble: Langella, Taylor and Ambrose all turned in incredible three-dimensional performances, it's like watching an acting masterclass.
Langella truly embodies the reclusive aging writer Leonard, whose life is turned upside down by the youth and ambition of Ambrose's Heather. I suspect I would love the movie more if I were a literary academic, but the humanity of the movie pleased me enough to highly recommend it.
