Review of Starting Out in the Evening (2007) by Benjamin B — 08 Jun 2008
Incredibly disappointing. The screenplay was rather disjointed; while there are some nice ideas and intellectual dialogue there's some very poorly written dialogue that didn't even seem to belong in the same film.
I appreciate that it didn't force a whole lot, it allowed loose ends without having to resolve or give closure. The acting, however, with the exception of Langella (the only real reason to see the film because he's fantastic), resides in the world of melodrama.
