Review of Starting Out in the Evening (2007) by Kimberly B — 13 Aug 2008
I didn't think I would like this, but it turned out to be a very well-done, sweet movie.
Not much really Happens, though, so if you need more action or drama, this might be too slow for your tastes.
This movie is about relationships, and dreams/goals: what compromises are you willing to make for them? It's about starting over; trying again; persevering; understanding what's important to you in order to be true to yourself.
The characters are believable & real -- even the grad student who I found rather annoying. (Thank goodness they didn't cast someone like Katie Holmes in that role!) The dialogue is great. Acting & directing also great, with the right amount of restraint.
