Review of Starter for 10 (2006) by André-Claude L — 02 Apr 2013
Based on David Nicholls successful novel it focuses on Brian Jackson, a working class boy who enrols in a posh private university. It follows his trials & tribulations in his first year while trying to achieve his dream, getting onto University Challenge.
It's a feel good rom com with plenty of nostalgia for those who grew up in the 80's with a decent soundtrack of the era, mostly falling into the genre The Cure were labelled with. It's a decent film with James McAvoy giving a decent performance with great comedy timing.
A pretty decent performance from Benedict Cumberbatch as well as both McAvoy's & Cumberbatch's characters play off each other in not only a battle of class but the age old battle of dick shaking & who's the smarter within the group as they rehearse for University Challenge.
