Review of Starsky & Hutch (2004) by Harry W — 05 Apr 2013
This 70's cop show revamp is well crafted by Director Todd Phillips and has all the elements of an enjoyable comedy. Sadly it was poorly received by critics and didn't strike much resemblance to the original TV series.
Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson are a completely different carnation of Starsky & Hutch as apposed to Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul. However I thoroughly enjoyed Stiller and Wilson as the comic duo and I enjoyed what they did with the characters.
The supporting cast features good performances from Vince Vaughn, Snoop Dogg, Jason Bateman & Will Ferrell. The laughs are constant, the one liners are memorable and the Gran Torino look better than ever.
The costumes where great and one of the only things that reminded me of the original series, with Stiller & Wilson wearing many of the outfits that regularly appeared in TV episodes. Also the cameo's from Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul was a nice touch and a crowd pleaser.
I thoroughly enjoyed this film and after dozens of viewings it still makes me laugh every time.
