Review of Starship Troopers: Invasion (2012) by Bash P — 12 Feb 2013
Finally a Starship Troopers that doesn't suck. What you love about Star Craft before Blizzard screwed it up too much, what you loved about Aliens that no other Alien sequel brought to the party, and what makes you choose Human when picking a race out of a bunch of alien species (unless you're a furry) is what is brought to the party in Starship Troopers: Invasion.
More bugs than you can poke a stick at, badass armor like what everyone thought they promised us in Halo with 'customizable persistent armor' but fell short of, and pretty much everything that gives you a sci-fi nerd boner rolled into one fantastic CGI masterpiece. Should I also mention what the Final Fantasy movie promised but fell short of? Basically every dream that corporations out there gave you then pissed in your face while you were sleeping off a hangover with is realized in this speculative fiction piece in the Starship Troopers world.
Sadly this is more true to Heinline's magnum opus than any other installation of the series, with a little Dead Space rolled in, you feel isolated and keep your ass to the wall with a bunch of Mobile Infantry, there's no cliche nonsense, no neccessary dwelling on the episodes that went before, no regurgitating old characters, and no Johnny Rico, not the novel one, the silly fucker with the dumb hair from the first movie.
Instead you get a bunch of bad ass bug killers who aren't afraid to lay down suppressing fire with the incinerators and fall back by squad, oh wait, that's Aliens. I get these two mixed up, because they're spiritual siblings in so many ways. I'm not going to rehash the content, every other review has done that ad nauseum, but what I will do is tell you that if you haven't watched it yet, do so, and if you don't watch it, you are no longer allowed to call yourself a nerd, tell people you like science fiction, nor ever watch or participate in the franchises listed above and will never, ever, EVER be able to say that you like having sex with women. Ever.
