Starship Troopers : Marauder has all the ingredients that made the first movie a classic : great action sequences, impressive special effects, symbolism and heavy political comment with humor ranging from black to cynical to absurd.
Marauder is much less subtle, lacks the original cast and uses the same humor, but I consider it a really good update.
