Review of Starship Troopers (1997) by Kate B — 15 Dec 2012
Starship Troopers is movie that's trying to be two things at once and because of this it fails to achieve any of them fully. At the start it feels like a statement on how society glamorizes conflict.
I assumed we would see the consequences of war, and see them take a toll on the characters, but that never really occurs. It could be the parody of war propaganda that the ending implies. But it seems to want to have it both ways and as a result doesn't really satisfy either.
It's a shame because there is a lot of potential here, and with a little more focus in one of those directions it could have been great.
