Review of Starred Up (2014) by Tony1984 — 04 Jul 2017
Prison is nothing like this. A completely false representation of both prisoners and prison officers. Its gritty and drab, but in no way realistic. Jack O'Connell delivers a strong performance and redeems the movie but there are too many flaws.
From the incomprehensible dialogue, mumbling and murmuring, which real Londoners don’t do, to the incomprehensible portrayal of the way a prison operates to the unengaging plot. Dour and despondent is a style which invites praise for its artistry when well done.
.. not when it’s pretentious.
