Review of Starred Up (2014) by Myles J — 27 Mar 2014
A gritty, no holes barred prison drama that treats the audience with ruthless authenticity and some emotion to boot. Jack O'Connell (Skins) deliver a masterful performance as a young offender caught up in the wrong environment to act like a 'hard man.
' He dominates each scene with witty dialogue and lingering screen time to demonstrate powerful emotions. He is supported well by Ben Mendelsohn and Rupert Friend (Homeland) who try to put him on the straight and narrow before his actions have deadly consequences.
Expect strong violence and strong language but as a whole the movie is gripping and thoroughly entertaining.
