Review of Starred Up (2014) by Reece L — 05 Sep 2014
Review:
I really enjoyed this intense prison drama about a teenager who has personal violent issues and ends up in adult prison with his father. The acting is very realistic and the storyline was well put together by the director. He really does give you an in depth look into life in prison and it shows you how it can psychologically play with your mind. He also touches on the corruption issues within the prison system, which was interesting to watch and I liked the scenes with the group. The violence throughout the movie made the film extremely intense and the relationship between the teenager and his father was a great addition to the storyline. In all, it's a great watch which I found interesting and a joy to watch. Enjoyable!
Round-Up:
Jack O'Connell, who plays the leading role, has starred in movies like the new 300, This Is England and The Liability but he hasn't become an household name as yet. He did put in a brilliant performance in this movie and I'm sure that he will get more work in the near future. As for Ben Mendelsohn, I really do rate him as an actor and it looks like Hollywood are starring him in more and more projects. With movies like The Dark Knight Rises, Killing Them Softly and Animal Kingdom under his belt, I'm sure that we are going to see him in some top movies in the near future. All of the other actors put in great performances, which made the movie stick out from all of the usual English prison drama's.
Budget: $2million.
Worldwide Gross: $4.5million .
I recommend this movie to people who are into there intense prison dramas about a teenager with proper anger issues and ends up in adult prison with his dad. 6/10.
