Review of Starred Up (2014) by Ash M — 14 Jan 2015
A brutal depiction of life inside a UK prison. It felt real, complete with more c-bombs in this one movie than I have heard in the rest of my life collectively. Not for the squeamish or easily offemded. The movie understands the characters, the predictability or unpredictability of real people, and really racks up the tension.
Rupert Friend's Baumer iOS interesting, but his arc closure wasn't particularly pleasing, but not much in the film is pleasing per sé. It just made me wonder what significance he really played when it was all over.
