Review of Starman (1984) by Mark H — 08 Nov 2010
This is a charming if corny film that builds on similar ground to 'Wargames' and 'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind', with flashes of imagery that belong in the last half an hour of '2001: A Space Odyssey'. It's hard to believe that Jeff Bridges got an oscar nomination for this, as his acting is just horrific, and strangely reminiscent of Arnie's Conan. Plenty of 'you Jane, me Tarzan' moments. That being said there is a tenderness to the film (largely due to Karen Allen's efforts) that keeps you watching.
Best quote: 'red light, stop. green light, go. yellow light, go very fast'.
