Yes, it's sappy, yes it's artificial, yes it's commercial, but it's got John Carpenter's stamp all over it (I did not remember that he directed this) and it's got Jeff Bridges COMPLETELY into the role of a ethereal alien being, genetically cast into a human skin.
Carpenter is trying real hard to nudge out Cronenberg as my favorite director...
