Review of Starman (1984) by Andrew B — 19 Feb 2012
No doubt I should open this review by stating that this isn't standard John Carpenter fare. It's a science fiction romance, rather than action or horror and it works surprisingly well. The effects haven't aged well and some of the plot elements are a bit simplistic, but overall the movie is surpringly moving, if not particularly involving.
It is a film that makes you ask questions, and gauges its audience perfectly, making for a cohesive experience which simultaneously doesn't spoonfeed or patronise watchers.
