Review of Stargate: Continuum (2008) by Matthew B — 04 Jul 2008
Ten times better than I thought it was going to be, as "Stargate" never seems to do time travel that well, but this one was surprisingly good; their best time-travelling episode (technically speaking) ever made.
The story was a bit predictable *SPOILERS*(from the first moment that Vaala and Teal'c both disappeared, I knew that they'd be villains in the new time reality)*/SPOILERS*, but it did well. The movie had another "convenient" plot item, like "Ark of Truth", but this time (lol, pardon the pun) around, this item had elements of it being mentioned before in the series. From the solar flares, to Ba'al having a network of satellites around numerous planets, it was believable that he would be able to do what he had done.
Camera work was fine, directing and writing too I suppose (albeit Daniel Jackson seemed to be saying "shit" a lot, which is a bit out of character for the otherwise reserved academic that he is), but what really excelled was the score that was used. 'Stargate' is a franchise that has beautiful music, that creates an atmosphere, and this film/episode continues that with it's music.
Nice cameos from the series' past characters, too. It was a nice touch.
