Review of Stargate: Continuum (2008) by Graham C — 11 Aug 2008
If like me you watched Ark of Truth and were disappointed then fear not, because the only fault that can be found with this film is that it was not released as a fully fledged feature for the cinema.
Continuum answers almost all those niggling questions left behind at the end of Season 10 and more importantly contains all those ingredients essential for an SG-1 movie, namely a cast we spent seven long years learning to love, including the return of the Tok'ra who never really featured much after Season 8 of the series. Best of all, Continuum focuses little on the newer characters such as Gen. Landry and Vala (although she is integral to the story) and instead celebrates SG-1's true heritage by starring and paying homage to the original characters which Ark of Truth so lacked. Don S Davis reprises his role as Gen. Hammond, Ba'al enlists the help of almost every Goa'uld System Lord SG-1 ever encountered, including Ra and Lord Yu. But best of all Continuum sees the return of the SG-1's most resilient bad-guy, Apophis, if only to face his demise.
Continuum maybe a rehash of over a dozen previous episodes but the simple fact it features, albeit briefly, the one character central to the success of the entire franchise, O'Neill as portryed by the aging (but ever witty) Richard Dean Anderson, makes up for any deficiencies in the story.
Overall, Continuum is a fantastic effort far exceedng the Ark of Truth, and is as close as you can get to good old-fashioned Gate-hopping the way they used to!
