Review of Stargate (1994) by Scott M — 08 Oct 2009
A mediocre beginning to a loooong, ongoing saga that I have a very mediocre opinion off. An opinion which is based on relatively few samplings of all the numerous Stargate series, I admit. Like the series, this film is also pleasant, it tries very hard to be serious and stylish, but feels a bit pointless and dumb compared to many other sci-fi products.
The problem with this film- and all the TV episodes of Stargate I've seen so far- is the story's desperate need to be action-packed, entertaining, and above all easy for everyone to assimilate. This film doesn't feel like it's ABOUT anything. It's all just random action carrying a plot that doesn't try too hard to be original. The soundtrack is okay, and as I said the film is a very pleasant one to watch, but not one worth seeing again.
