Review of Stargate (1994) by Carlos C — 25 Apr 2010
Like it or not it's one of the most ground breaking films in science fiction. The successful continuation of it in subsequent television series and their spinoffs continues to this day and has shown a longevity that rivals that of Star Trek and Star Wars.
This film started a movement in science fiction and is a terribly romantic notion of one very creative form of space travel. Looking back at it sixteen years later, there is some great cgi mixed in with other special effects.
It harkens to a time when the use of cgi was not as gratuitous as it is today. While it might not be as impressive as what the technical team would later do, "Independence Day," it's a milestone in science fiction that only gets better as it gets older.
