Review of Stardust (2010) by Devyn K — 04 Apr 2014
What can be said about this movie? It is filed with magic, of that much we can be sure. It is also filed with special effects that, at times, are rather bad. However, there is one thing that is certain about this movie and that is that the interaction between the two characters is amazing.
They laugh, the talk, and they grow together. It may be off putting to some as the journey takes place very quickly, but remember that in the book it lasted much longer and took place over the course of several months.
There are some other changes, but from what I can see they make the characters a bit more interesting. That's not to say that Neil Gaiman is a bad writer, but here they are more mature. Tristan is less naive and the star less of a child.
To a degree this isn't the best of ideas, yet at the same time it makes things more enjoyable. To be honest, the book is a gem in my heart, but the color of the gem is this movie. If that doesn't make sense I suggest you read Stardust an then watch it.
Though, one important thing to note is that the ending of this movie is not as beautiful as the book, yet it is well acted and a lot of fun. Also, how often do you get to see Robet Deniro in a dress?
