Review of Stardust (2007) by Billys. — 12 Aug 2007
Stardust has aspirations of being a much more epic-sized The Princess Bride by throwing in elements of Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of te Rings but it never quite lives up to those ambitions.
But in a summer of disappointing sequels and blockbuster franchises, Stardust is still a great getaway into a make believe world of witches, pirates, kings and magic spells. The story holds up throughout the 2 hour running time with some great,(and some cheesy) special effects and some "let it fly" performances from Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro, the always terrific Peter O'Toole and a movie-stealing hysterical bit by Ricky Gervais.
The comedy in Stardust is what makes up for all its shortcomings and it is very funny, making it one of those films that takes you by surprise for a trip that 's well worth taking.
