Review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) by Nikolai G — 02 Jan 2018
TFA teased us with intriguing questions. Why was Rey able to pilot the Millennium Falcon so well? Why did Luke's and Vader's light saber "call out" to her? What did her visions means? Why did she see so many scenes from Luke's life in it? Why did Obi Wan speak to her in that vision? Might the identity of her parents hold some of the answers?
I waited two years to find out. And I got nothing. None of the questions were answered, except her parents, which was really a non-answer. It was an answer that said, "I'm not playing this game. I don't even like Star Wars. Take your mythology and shove it.".
This was absolutely the worst Star Wars movie of all -- I mean, Jarjar was bad -- but this entry 'broke' the mythology, broke the Star Wars universe.
JJ Abrams has a MASSIVE job to try and minimize the damage and restore something in Episode 9. I do not envy him.
And one more thing. The very very last moment with Luke in the movie, was pointless and made no sense whatsoever. Though it has made me fearful of using Skype in the future.
