Review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) by Josiah M — 05 May 2018
It's been 10 years. 10 long years and I didn't think we would be getting another Star wars movie until Disney acquired the rights. I didn't even know how they're gonna pull it off when they said the stories will be after Return of the Jedi. After watching a few times this movie has actually been an eye-opening experience. Not for the better.
I'm gonna connect this to The Last Jedi because it's all been going real bad. I can't let it go but I also can't let the dark side cloud everything. Or maybe perhaps the dark side is telling me the truth? In which case, this could be it. I don't know where this franchise is actually going and it is sad to know that this whole beloved series that was part of me growing up is going downhill. This is not me trying to put down this franchise but actually telling you that this whole thing is not going well. I will contradict myself that I still love the franchise and I still will get the blurays but that's about it. I am not too fond of how it is like I was with it back then.
The introduction to the characters are still fine and the pacing of the story is fine too. But the idea of destroying a legacy built upon since 1977 is insulting. That making a movie with the title alone: STAR WARS, would definitely milk out the franchise. Instead of actually creating something memorable and be loved by many, many fans. A recreation of a movie that's so familiar while at the same time destroying a lore that was once thought that made sense. This movie and then The Last Jedi, nothing ever made sense and I don't know how episode 9 will redeem it all. I just hope it made more sense then the other two.
For what it's worth. Force Awakens and The Last Jedi are still enjoyable but not memorable. Not like the original trilogy where we can recall a lot of scenes that were too great for us to remember by. Let alone the characters we love so much. Maybe I'm talking it out of my behind but let's be real. The new Star Wars films are actually worse than the prequels. It breaks my heart knowing this but it's true and I can't be blinded by the light side no more.
