Review of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) by James R — 25 Feb 2010
At least Episode II won't go down in history as the worst Star Wars movie ever made. For awhile, I could be entertained. There were action sequences where the characters didn't really talk, and that was tolerable.
But about ten minutes in, I start noticing the animation and realized, it's completely half-assed. The rendering is terrible, the wrinkles on Dooku's face look like they were crudely painted on, everything moves as stiffly as the droid army, and the battle in the sand? What was that? It was awful.
The entire time, I couldn't believe I was watching a movie that they had shown in theaters. There were a handful of moments that captured the heart of Star Wars, (waves of clones running headlong into heavy fire, surprisingly funny banter between Anakin and his new padawan,) but all character development comes to a grinding halt when the movie just ends.
No preamble, no real climax, no falling action, just "mission accomplished, we win, THE END." I was shocked. But doing a little research, I found that this was, in fact, the premiere episode of a TV show.
An animated TV show. And they showed it in theaters. And that's what pisses me off. That George Lucas thinks so little of the fans that have made this franchise what it is, that he sells them whatever steaming pile of crap he can slap the logo on.
He took the mediocre premiere to a mediocre TV show, and put it in theaters across the nation so he could make a few million more dollars. Lucas, why did you kill the magic?
