Review of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) by Jeffrey D — 28 May 2010
My brother is a die-hard Star Wars fan. He loves everything Star Wars related: movies, books, video games, the works. I have seen all six films in the series and have enjoyed them all, some more than others. So we watched this tonight.
Let me say up-front, it could have been A LOT worse. No, it doesn't even comes close to Episodes IV, V, or VI, and doesn't even live up to the standards of I, II, and III, but it isn't terrible. Die-hards are going to hate it, like everything since "Return Of The Jedi", but this isn't for them.
If you go see this film, prepare for an action-heavy story with great special effects and battle sequences. But at the same time, expect some dodgy CGI, poor voices, a over-complicated plot, and some of the most annoying dialogue ever. Yes, the whole Padawan/Master relationship is new and different, but does every line from Anakin and Ahsoka need to be banter. Seriously.
Yes the series isn't what it used to be, but "The Clone Wars" isn't necessarily "bad". Purists stay away, but as long as you don't have to pay money to see it, it's not a complete waste of time. Hopefully, George Lucas will realize that it's time to stop milking this franchise. Don't get me wrong, I love the films, but enough is enough, man. Sometimes, even a great tale needs to end.
