Review of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) by Jc E — 20 Oct 2010
So, this certainly isn't the Star Wars that we all fell in love with growing up, or even up to par with the prequel trilogy that got us excited to see another story in the Skywalker saga. However, it works for what it is.
As a lead in to the Cartoon Network series of the same name, this works pretty well as an introduction to the characters and animation that are associated with it. It would be too easy to rip it apart due to the animation or the cheesy characters - most abominably Ziro the Hutt, a Capote-esque version of the slug we all love to loathe - but one can't really do due to the obvious objective of the film/series: to appeal to a new generation of children who want to be captivated by the events a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
Plus, the expanded role of women in this saga is interesting, from having Ahsoka as a role model for young girls to making a woman one of the main villains: Asajj Ventress, a vile assassin. Sure, it's no Emmy worthy series, but it makes for escapist fun for even the most remote fan of the saga.
