Review of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) by Jonathan R — 11 Oct 2012
After years of trying to avoid the Star Wars: The Clone Wars subseries of the Star Wars saga; I finally decided to break down and watch it, start with this film. I did not find it as bad as people said, but it's definitely among the weaker Star Wars works (and I am in the minority that liked the prequels, and made a Christmas tradition out of watching the Star Wars Holiday Special).
While Ahsoka Tahno can be a bit of a whiny brat (I kind of expected more from a Jedi Apprentice that's the same race as Shaak Ti), it's a decent enough pilot for the TV show. However, the animation comes off as glaringly-low budget (this film came out the same year as WALL-E, mind you); and the plot is weak.
I didn't consider the dialogue in the prequels stiff at all, but here, it's clear the voice actors (including Matt Lanter and veteran James Arnold Taylor) were just doing this because George Lucas effectively gave them enough for a nice car.
I'm starting the TV show soon, I'm told it gets better.
