Review of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) by Brandon S — 05 Mar 2013
I recently re-watched this film because I thoroughly enjoy "The Clone Wars" show on Cartoon Network (soon to be on Disney XD) and I thought i'd give it another shot. In fact, this time, I watched it with my wife.
The first half of the movie isn't half bad. My wife even said it was better than Episode I thru III. Great battle between the droid army and the republic...just as awesome as any battle in Episodes I thru III.
But then comes the main plot of the story to completely ruin the whole movie...the kidnapping of Jabba the Hutts son. What? WHAT?!?!? Oh it gets worse! The Jedi (namely Anakin) has to go and save him with his "annoyingly, over the top and never listens to anything Anakin says" Padawan "Ashoka" just so the republic can negotiate trade routes along the outer rims.
Now we were always meant to believe that the outer rim planets, namely "Tattooine", were desolate and for people who don't want to be found and the Hutts were just "local" gangsters with no ties to the republic at all.
This is what bothered me most...just as much as going to save Jabba's son. AGAIN...it gets MUCH WORSE! In comes the plot of Jabba's Uncle...Ziro the Hutt, who is trying so hard to be THE WORST CHARACTER created ever in the Star Wars Universe (that grand prize still belongs to Jar Jar).
As Ziro (the metro-sexual, often questionable voice acting, worst character in the film...besides "Stinky") is revealed to be in cahoots with Darth Tyranus (a.k.a Count Dooku). Now i'm all for plot twists.
..but damn this plot twist sucked so bad the last half of the movie is hardly watchable. Annoying voice acting from Ziro, Padme, Chancellor Palpatine, Ashoka and even Obi Wan (he always sounds sarcastic!) make this movie THE WORST Star Wars movie which after watching Episode II, I didn't think was possible! Rest assure, save yourself from watching this crap-fest and go watch the TV show instead.
Better stories and WAY more fun!
