Review of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) by Xavier C — 16 May 2015
It feels very different from the other entries in the series, like it was advertised. The atmosphere is more attuned to a war movie, and it's properly executed. The plot itself isn't even much more than a string of military operations that wouldn't have much significance compared to other ones. The score is still excellent like the others. It suffers from the same stiff and unnatural dialogue that he prequel trilogy does, particularly in the first 30 minutes or so. Ahsoka is the worst offender.
A lot of this movie is purely combat. There was only one instance where there wasn't any fighting for 10 minutes at a time. They're exciting and nice to look at. I will say that I'll never get used to how much the soldiers miss simple shots. The lightsaber duels feel more intense than in the other movies mainly due to how the characters move, being animated rather than live-action. The movements feel overall swifter and flashier. The sheer amount of action sequences didn't get exhausting, luckily, but there was little time for characterization. Since this is the first time she was introduced, Ahsoka did get developed a little, but nobody has a particularly complex personality. Padme Amidala's appearance is particularly wasted and adds nothing to the story except a shallow subplot that breaks the theme of a war movie.
I can at least say that I enjoyed this as a simple action flick from time to time.
