Review of Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) by Luke E — 18 Apr 2016
The supposed pilot to what would keep the 'Star Wars' franchise going before the acquisition of Disney, is a very lackluster but, albeit quite entertaining animated feature. Although due to it's overall premise to tell the big story of the supposed 'Clone Wars' that take place between 'Attack of the Clones' and 'Revenge of the Sith' was definitely more suited to television, this feature of four episodes put together feels quite rushed, especially when trying to match the scope and quality of the films.
Also Releasing this supposed 'pilot' theatrically is just another one of the many times George Lucas for any lack of better words 'overstepped the line'. The scripting is shallow and makes fans and viewers question the very motivation of the writers, nonetheless what the film lacks in plot and story it makes up for in characters, world building and action almost as spectacular as the films themselves.
While getting through this may be a chore especially if there are plenty of viewers and fans curious about 'The Clone Wars', if you're a big Star Wars fan you may be able to tolerate the mixed quality of this film.
I don't really want to acknowledge this as a theatrically released Star Wars film, though what came after it on TV is a hell of a lot more an improvement from what this 'pilot', as well as many written elements in the Prequel Trilogy overall turned out to be.
