Review of Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) by Stevenschatz — 21 Sep 2016
Star Wars: Attack of the Clones is an significant improvement from its predecessor, however, still fails to reach the quality of the original films. The movie drags on a lot in the beginning, but picks up in the second act with far more action than The Phantom Menace. However, the film suffers greatly from Hayden Christensen's bad acting and tons of cringey conversations between Anakin and Padme during their unnecessary subplot. The only way the film regresses in terms of action is with the lightsaber duels: they were short and anti-climactic. The film does have some level of suspense, which was largely absent from The Phantom Menace, and a pretty good story. I never found myself confused or falling asleep while watching the movie. Also, there are much fewer politics in this movie and the few political conversations that are there are short and easy to follow. Overall, George Lucas has learned from his mistakes in The Phantom Menace (mostly) and gave us a pretty good Star Wars film.
Verdict:
Sound/Visuals - 4.5/5.
Plot/Characters - 4/5.
Structure - 4/5.
Acting - 2/5.
Overall - 3.
