Review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) by Jenna G — 29 Feb 2016
As a newcomer to these movies, I had heard for years about how terrible Episodes 1-3 were. I started watching with A New Hope & on, because I feared that if I started with these, I might lose interest.
Well, after watching, The Phantom Menace wasn't AS bad as I had expected. Still pretty awful, but I had very low expectations. The visuals are great, Neeson & McGregor are fine...I am one of the few, I'm sure, that actually liked Jar Jar Binks.
It's not a good thing that one of my favorite things about this movie was Jar Jar. Darth Maul was awesome. Even though I had never watched a second of Star Wars until now, I remember him being everywhere in 1999.
Especially on bottles of Pepsi, I think? I could've watched Darth Maul as a villain for the rest of the series. The bad parts....Little Vader is annoying as hell. Everyone thought Jar Jar was annoying.
..this kid, mannnnn, is the true definition of annoying. The plot just did not interest me. The writing was ...meh. I was entertained, I guess, but still disappointed.
