Review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) by Henry E — 08 Nov 2015
It is not blinded by excessive gleaming CGI, which is more than can be said for the other two prequels. However, too many aspects of it just don't work: Darth Maul could have been developed into a memorable character; Anakin is almost as annoying as Jar Jar; the acting is transgressively wooden; and its attempt at comedy through the Gungans falls hopelessly short.
