Review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) by Daddysaku — 21 Oct 2018
Although this movie gets a lot of negative response, I found there are a lot of things to love here. Even though the story is fairly boring and some of the characters are badly written, George Lucas succeded in the most important aspect of this movie.
He managed to create an original and exciting universe set before the rise of the empire in episode IV. Apart from this the movie manages to impress with, for its time, outstanding visuals. The movie may not be a masterpiece, but it held my attention to the end.
It does an ok job as a standalone movie, but it excells in universe building.
