Review of Star Wars (1977) by Reece L — 04 Jun 2015
Admittedly, there's really nothing new anyone could add to the discourse surrounding what is likely the biggest, most influential film in cinematic history. That being said, from a retrospective perspective, another in the long line of laudatory assessments is certainly warranted; this is essentially a perfect movie.
It's incredible how breezy it all feels given the amount of plot/exposition/backstory/world-building shoved into its two hour running time, the archetypal-yet-unique characters anchoring the gigantic scope of its compelling space opera edifice.
The special effects are still commendable even by today's standards, and the visuals throughout are iconic in their sleekly futuristic aesthetic qualities. All in all, it's an impenetrable piece of filmmaking, filled to the brim with iconography, carefully constructed, and impeccably scored for the ultimate blockbuster experience.
