Review of Star Wars (1977) by Inaki S — 12 Dec 2015
George Lucas's highly original magnificent classic masterpiece, that is an extremely imaginative and elaborate sci-fi spectacle that became a world-wide sensation, and one of the most popular motion pictures of all-time.
It concerns a callow young man named Luke Skywalker, superbly played by Mark Hamill, who lives on the desert world of Tatootine, he will soon become an interplanetary hero with the help of a mysterious old hermit named Obi-Wan Kenobi, marvelously played by the late great Sir Alec Guinness, in a marvelous Academy Award nominated performance, and a fearless badass named Han Solo, played to the hilt by a young Harrison Ford, who is a notorious space smuggler, as well as the robotic duo of C3PO & R2D2, played to comic perfection by Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker.
They will try to rescue Princess Leia, played by Carrie Fisher, in a wonderfully sassy performance, from the evil Galactic Empire and the Dark Sith Lord, Darth Vader, played by Dave Prowse, and brilliantly voiced by James Earl Jones.
Special kudos must go to the late great Peter Cushing, for his nefarious turn as the evil Grand Moff Tarkin. Astute direction by George Lucas, with spectacular Academy Award winning visual effects by John Dykstra, John Stears, Richard Edlund, Grant McCune, and Robert Blalack.
John Williams' brilliant rousing Academy Award winning score is totally unforgettable. A regal cinematic experience that richly earned 10 Academy Awards nominations including Best Picture and Best Director: George Lucas.
