Review of Star Wars (1977) by Brian C — 20 Dec 2015
I am not blind to the fact that this movie has its faults. However, the pluses far outweigh its shortcomings. Works as a stand alone story, but hints at a larger mythology. Upon my rewatching, I was surpised that the acting ( within the inherently hammy context ) is better than I remember.
The dialogue may be simplistic, but its delivered sincerely enough that you dont pay it any mind. The effects look more dated now that we can watch these movies in HD, but they still hold up very well, and are far more realistic than anything the prequels barfed up.
Also, the whole movie is fantastically paced. It knows when to speed up and slow down.
