Review of Star Wars (1977) by Alex T — 21 Dec 2015
I'm new to the series, and my only other Star Wars experience was 16 years ago as a child watching the Phantom Menace - apparently not the best way to start (although I don't doubt it is a lot better than I remember).
I find the story simple, well told, and entertaining. The transitions are snappy, engaging and enable the story to motor along quite nicely. It is nice to see some big names of the film acting world show their class: Alec Guinness and Harrison Ford I'm talking to you. It's George Lucas' world, and I applaud his vision, and the way in which he tells his story - the effects of 1977 aren't all that dated you know.
John Williams is the other genius here. He shows why he is the best film composer there is, and ever will be.
