Review of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) by Chris A — 17 Aug 2010
When this movie was made everyone knew that the original cast would soon be too old to make any more Star Trek movies. This was their last chance to make a Star Trek movie. The story was inspired by the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union.
This was fitting since the original series had many Cold War themes in it's stories. This movie also was a link between the original series and the Next Generation series. It told how the Klingon Empire was no longer the threat to the Federation in the Next Generation series.
It also explained how the Klingon Empire changed from a military dictatorship in the original series to a chaotic pirate society in the Next Generation. It's a good story but there were too many self parodies for what should have been a serious story.
The plot is a little contrived and predictable. I saw this movie when it came out in the Cinema 5 theater in Midwest City. Over all it's a good movie and continued the pattern of the even numbered movies being the ones to see.
