The people at Paramount easily could have given up on the Original Series Star Trek movies after the disastrous Star Trek V, but thankfully they just couldn?t let the series go out on that odd numbered travesty.

With this movie they gave the cast the ending that they truly deserved. The idea to make the film an extended cold war allegory was simply brilliant, wrapping up the major conflict of this era of Star Trek just as the major conflict of the real world was wrapping up was really fitting.

The fact that this was made by Wrath of Kahn director Nicholas Myer was no coincidence and this is the only movie of the initial series to rival that film. This has everything you expect from Star Trek: an intelligent story, some good action, and nice little mystery.

The actors seem to be on top of their game too, especially Nimoy. My only complaint is that the special effect, while better than Star Trek V?s, are not exactly cutting edge for their time. This is the same year Terminator 2 came out, I think they could have done a little better than that really fake looking dog monster that?s in the prison.
