Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Jason H — 03 Sep 2012
I'm torn on this one. It's bad, that's for sure, but it's not THAT bad. I love that it gets back to the great triumvirate of Kirk/Spock/McCoy that we got very little of in the previous films.
But then there's Kirk vs., well, anything and everything. The nutty Vulcan, the mountain, "God", Klingons; you name it, he faces it here (can't forget that three-breasted thing in the bar!).
Bad special effects, with the exception of the shuttle crash, is a major issue, though the Goldsmith score is pretty good. But Shatner forgot how to believably act as Kirk again, which brings it back down.
See, I'm torn! I guess it's fun in a drinking game sort of way (not that I'd know anything about that stuff...), or in a "so bad, it's good" kind of way.
