Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Jim C — 21 Sep 2012
This fifth motion picture is up there with original series episode "This Way to Eden" as one of the worst of the classic Star Trek adventures (in fact "Way to Eden" and "Final Frontier" are nearly identical stories, except of course for the silly hippy music).
The Enterprise is sent to rescue hostages taken by a rag-tag religious cult, only to learn it is a ruse. The cult's leader turns out to be a televangelist and takes control of the ship claiming to have knowledge of the existence of "Eden" where God is waiting for them.
I don't want to spoil this movie for those who haven't seen it, but during this film you'll see 57 year old Nichelle Nichols nearly naked and Captain Kirk attacked by a cast member from "Cats The Musical.
" After lots of pseudo-religious banter the film climaxes in a battle with the Wizard of Oz. Its a train wreck of a film that unlike some of the really bad original series episodes like "Spock's Brain" isn't all that enjoyable to watch.
