Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Krys K — 28 Jun 2008
The first Star Trek movie I saw at the cinema. I'm surprised I went back to be honest. This is a comedy movie which can be summed up thusly - Captain Kirk v God = Kirk wins. There's some good bits.
Getting back from Nimbus III and warping off in the nick of time - good. "What does God need with a Starship" - best question ever! But the rest... well, once Shatner linked up with the Reeves-Stevens and started writing then things were good.
I love those books. But this movie... no, sorry. I know, there's definitely the problem that Paramount tied his hands. I'd have loved to have seen the rock guy scene. But even then, would that have saved the movie? I doubt it.
