Review of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) by Alex A — 17 Aug 2010
William Shatnar's attempt at directing a Star Trek film after Leonard Nimoy's two sucessful attempts prior to this. He doesn't do ....too badly. The film is actually very well directed and feels a little bit more futuristic than the previous 3 films (The Motion Picture still feels like it is really set in the 23rd Century).
The story is completly ridiculas and isn't very true to the original series. The action sequences however are quite impressive and some of the concepts are very interesting. There is real charecter development in this Star Trek film, probably more in this single film than in all the episodes from the original series put together.
All together its quite fun but it has to be taken like a product from the 60's, you can't take it too seriously. It is extremly senial and very ridiculas at times.
